ACM New York City Meetup:
Diverse Algorithms for Online Design Communities
Online design communities can let people all over the world collaborate together to generate new ideas. However, organizers of these contests need methods to process a large number of ideas efficiently and tools to make decentralized teams work better. This talk discusses a few optimization and machine learning methods to assist such design communities. Specifically, we will talk about two problems faced by organizations in gathering and processing ideas from distributed teams: 1) How does one form diverse teams to evaluate design ideas? and 2) How does one filter high quality and diverse ideas out of hundreds of submissions? I will discuss how some matching and ranking algorithms help address these problems.
